HR Specialist

Primary Location: Malvern, Arkansas

FLSA Status: F/T Exempt

Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility

The HR Specialist will be responsible for providing Human Resources support to all employees at the Malvern, Arkansas manufacturing site. The scope of the HR Specialist's responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: employee relations, recruiting, new hire orientation, training, payroll, compensation and benefits administration, performance management and policies and practices consistent with site and/or corporate policies.


Essential Functions

  • Supports in matters of payroll, compensation, benefits, policies/procedures, attendance, disciplinary procedures
  • Assists managers in the recruitment process to meet staffing goals
  • Interview applicants, verifies references, performs background checks, and determines the candidates overall qualification
  • Responsible for new employee orientation and processes new hire paperwork
  • Performs timely new hire reporting applicable with local, state, and federal requirements
  • Assists new hires with correctly filling out new hire documentation such as federal and state tax, I-9, benefits, etc.
  • Works with HR Manager to make sure we have competitive wages and benefit packages
  • Processes employee terminations including performing exit interviews and assisting managers in filling out termination paperwork
  • Maintains legal posting requirements
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Process vacation requests
  • Effectively communicates with employees both written and verbally
  • Performs a daily walk through of plant and interacts with employees on benefit changes, employment issues, concerns, etc.
  • Provides managers with interpretation and guidance of HR policies and legal and compliance matters to ensure fair and consistent application.
  • Counsels and advises on the administration of specific employment laws including federal and state labor laws, and consults with legal, as necessary
  • Reviews and assists managers in drafting corrective action, performance improvement and termination documentation as needed.
  • Coaches managers to help them strengthen their people leadership skills and serve as a sounding board and confidant during difficult interactions and business situations
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources or related filed and at least 5 years of related business experience
  • At least 3 years of wing-to-wing employee relations experience conducting and managing complex and sensitive employee relations cases (intake, complete thorough investigation, close the loop with the employee that raised the concern, coach/take appropriate disciplinary action with managers/employees as needed, etc.)
  • HR experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Solid understanding of local, state, and federal employment law
  • Ability to take care of highly confidential information and utilize proper judgement in dissemination and communication
  • Self-starter, independent; high level of self-management capability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Labor relations experience preferred
  • Exercise strong business judgement that is aligned with broad organizational philosophies and practices and is compliance with regulations
  • Ability and energy to engage and foster trust. Seen as a trusted advocate by all employees.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player and collaborator - is excellent at leading cross functional initiatives and understands the impact of effective team work and communication
