Lean Manufacturing Engineer

Overview of Position

This position is responsible for driving all aspects of continuous improvement that reduces manufacturing costs, improves safety, and increases product quality.  The Lean Manufacturing Engineer leads, facilitates, executes, and manages projects to reduce costs by implementing Lean, 5’s, WCP, TPS, and Six Sigma tools and methodologies.


Description of Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Develop work standards and line balancing for productivity
  • Identify opportunities and execute plans to reduce manufacturing costs
  • Plan and lead all 5’s – Lean events
  • Optimize machining processes to reach product quality, efficiency, and process repeatability
  • Execute LEAN manufacturing techniques and design
  • Optimize work flow and cell designs for shop throughput
  • Track and execute cost reduction for process improvements
  • Plan, execute and manage projects to complete through product continuous improvement
  • Communicate lean philosophy, vision, and expectations to all employees
  • Develop and sustain employees training and development on lean concepts
  • Develop measurement systems supporting lean manufacturing philosophies
  • Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas
  • Maintain and follow up on every event
  • Organizes, compiles, and maintains all documents and data related to quality.
  • Establish and implement quality procedures and specifications, testing procedures, and standards for raw materials and for in process finished product
  • Audits quality systems and initiating corrective action as required
  • Develop process control procedures ensuring production of finished products meets quality specifications and standards
  • Develop training for and train employees on quality related practices and system requirements
  • Develop and lead cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues and to improve levels of quality and productivity through improved processes and methods.
  • Resolve any quality problems through root cause  analysis
  • Conduct research on product defects and recommend modifications in product or quality standards where warranted
  • Recommend new developments that would improve production and or quality and reduce manufacturing costs
  • Analyze and evaluate tooling and fixture problems
  • Work with plant leadership to achieve operational goals.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
